Dress to impress – not just for Christmas

Professor Karen Pine from the University of Hertfordshire suggests ‘we know our clothes affect other people’s impressions of us and now, research shows what we wear affects us too’.  Our self-confidence can grow when we know we look well and feel comfortable in the style of clothes that reflect our personality and are appropriate for the occasion.

Research has also found a link between self-confidence and success.  The way we dress can have an impact on our career too.  Notice the successful individuals you admire within your organisation – what impact do they leave with how well they are dressed?

Listen here to my interview with Mandy Griffiths, an expert image consultant, who shares her insights and advice by learning about what clothes work for you.  Gentlemen, there are rules for you too, in what to wear and what not to wear.

Twenty-five years ago, I had a colours consultation where I discovered what colours suit my skin tone – deep, cool, winter – jewel colours are for me! I cannot tell you how easy it has been for me to shop for clothes since that time. I go straight to this colour selection, by-passing the pastels and natural colours on display, as I know they do not suit me – in fact they make me look positively unwell.

About eight years ago, I visited Mandy for a style consultation, together with my Mum and step-sister. Going together was great fun and it helped us learn about three different styles – not just our own.  The styles that suited us varied reflecting our personalities and lifestyles. This was one of the best investments I have made. Not only did I discover the style of clothes that suit me best, I discovered that I could be me by wearing the clothes that reflect my personality – colour and a bit of sparkle – I was in my element! Since then other members of my family, my friends and clients have benefitted from Mandy’s expertise.

In my experience, it is worth the small investment – for a huge return in creating an impact and a positive lasting impression.

Take the plunge and consider an image consultancy session as a gift to yourself (or perhaps someone will purchase a voucher for you for Christmas) and make an investment that will change the way you feel about yourself.
